I haven’t been to Red Lobster in…well, it’s been a really long time! I ate lunch there a lot when I was just out of college since it was across the street from where I worked.

The truth? I didn’t care about the lobster, the shrimp, or anything else. All I wanted was those amazingly awesome and addicting biscuits!

By the way…does anyone else immediately think of Happy Gilmore every single time they hear the words Red Lobster? Is it just me? Maybe I’ve seen it way too many times. Great movie, though. If you haven’t seen it, definitely check it out.

Anyway…all these years later, I don’t live anywhere near a Red Lobster, but I can still enjoy those wonderfully soft, buttery, cheesy, garlicky biscuits at home any time I want!

They’re so easy to make, and they go great with soup, salad, and just about any lunch or dinner – and maybe even breakfast. Hmm…egg sandwich on a cheesy garlic biscuit? (Note to self: Try this immediately!)

Yes, there are tons of different recipes out there for these biscuits. Everyone seems to have their own version. This is my version, which is a hodgepodge of the best things from all the recipes I’ve tried over the years. It’s really, really close to the original.

The best part? These homemade cheesy garlic biscuits are super easy to make and all from scratch. Mix everything together in one bowl, drop the dough onto a baking sheet, bake, EAT! All in less than 30 minutes!

The smell in your house while these babies are baking? A-MA-ZING!

There are two secrets to getting biscuits that are light and soft instead of dense and hard. First, don’t over mix the dough. After adding the milk, stir just until everything is combined and there is no dry flour.

Second, don’t over bake them. They should just be lightly golden (not browned).

If you have any biscuits left over (really?), you can freeze them (they should last a couple of months). Reheat them in the microwave (30 seconds or so right from frozen) or in the oven (wrap in foil and bake until heated through, 15 to 20 minutes at 325°F).

These are definitely best served warm…and nothing beats a fresh batch straight from the oven. Try not to eat them all at once!

Ingredients

BISCUITS:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons cold butter, cubed
  • cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup milk

TOPPING:

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried parsley

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F.

Make Biscuits:

  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, garlic powder, and salt. Whisk or stir to combine so that everything is evenly distributed.

  • Add the cubed cold butter. Using a pastry blender, a fork, or two butter knives, cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

  • Stir in the cheese.

  • Add milk; stir just until everything is combined and there is no dry flour. The dough will be somewhat wet and sticky.Don’t over mix the dough, as this can cause the biscuits to be dense and tough.

  • Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a sheet pan (you will get 12 biscuits).

  • Bake for 16 to 18 minutes or just until the biscuits are lightly golden. They should not be browned. Be careful not to overcook them, as this will cause the biscuits to be dense and hard.

Make Topping:

  • While the biscuits are baking, melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Add the garlic powder and parsley; stir to combine.

  • As soon as the biscuits come out of the oven, brush with the topping.

  • Best served warm!

Notes

  • Leftover biscuits can be frozen. Place in freezer bags (they should last a couple of months). You can reheat them in the microwave (30 seconds or so right from frozen) or in the oven (wrap in foil and bake until heated through, 15 to 20 minutes at 325°F).
