Can I use a Smart Switch without a SIM card? ›

You don't need a SIM card in both phones to use a smart switch. Smart switch works on Wi-Fi and not on SIM card, so you can easily transfer data between your phones without having a SIM card in either one.

If your receiving phone's storage is at or near maximum capacity, Smart Switch may be unable to complete a wireless transfer to that phone. Deselect any unnecessary items and make sure that the estimated total size does not surpass the receiving phone's available space.

Inserting a SIM is optional, but you'll have to connect to a Wi-Fi network to restore your phone wirelessly.

If using a LOCKED phone, insert the SIM card BEFORE using Smart Switch. If you do not, you could risk losing all your data from a factory reset (1st screenshot).

Wireless transfer for just the essentials

On your new Galaxy device, open the Smart Switch app and select “Receive data.” For the data transfer option, select “Wireless” if prompted. Select the OS of the device you're transferring from. Then tap “Transfer.”

Smart switch will work just fine without a SIM in the device you are moving data from. If you have a new Samsung phone you will likely have a USB - C double ended cable. Use that to transfer data. Or back up your old phone on Google Drive.

Put your sim into new device before powering your new device on. Set up the phone and update all apps from store's. Check for software update. You can use cloud backup or use smartswitch to transfer everything over from your old device to your new one.

Contacts: Contacts saved on the SIM card, social networks (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), Google accounts, and work email accounts are excluded. Calender: Appointments synced with external accounts, such as Google, and calendar stickers are excluded.

No, taking out a SIM card does not delete everything. Your phone's data and apps are stored on its internal storage or external memory card. None of this data is stored on the SIM card.

If I use Smart Switch, will the data be removed from the old form during the transfer? No the data will still be on the old phone unless you delete it. From experience, I'd recommend using a cable to transfer data than doing it wireless. A 100% none of your data will be deleted.

If the phone you're switching to is from the same carrier or it's unlocked, you shouldn't need a new SIM.

If you're happy to only use Wi-Fi, rather than mobile data, you'll still be able to browse the web, access social media and stream video content without a SIM. If you wish to make calls, send messages and access 3G, 4G and 5G on the go you'll need a SIM card and appropriate data plan.

To use your new smartphone, simply insert your SIM card, then turn the phone on by pressing and holding the power button on the right side of the phone until you feel it vibrate and the Samsung logo appears. The phone will then prompt you through the initial set-up.

Go to their Settings > WiFi and turn it on. Preferably, you should connect both the devices to the same WiFi network. You can also turn on the WiFi feature from the notification tab as well. If it still won't work, then restart your devices and try connecting them again.
